Future-Fit Leadership: From Coping to Thriving Amid Rising Complexity
Each generation experiences significant change due to innovations, disruptions and shifting perspectives transforming our ways of operating and organizing in business and beyond. Yet, the times in which we live herald paradigmic and metamorphic shifts challenging what we do and the way we do it, calling into question our sense of purpose, and demanding wholly new ways of creating and delivering value. This is in part due to the catalytic effect of digitization and globalization, and in part due to the urgent trilemma of economic, environmental and social challenges now upon us. Amid all this, there are complex shifts affecting each of us at deep and partly unconscious levels, challenging how we perceive ourselves, each other and the world around us. At once it is an immensely exciting, liberating, testing and unpredictable time to be involved in the future of business.
‘Its not the strongest species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most able to adapt to change.’ Charles Darwin
This capacity to truly adapt to change amid a time of upheaval, stress and dissonance, is what we explore through the embodied learning environment of nature Herself.
Nature works and it does work for atleast two good reasons:
- There is an immense treasure-trove of insights and techniques we can draw from the natural world around us. Over 3.8bn years-worth of R&D of what works and what doesn’t during change upon change.
- The very act of going into nature is scientifically proven to enhance our future-fit capacities as leaders and change agents. By example, engaging in the various practices I facilitate amid ancient woodlands while exploring next-stage leadership enhances our coherence, resilience, empathy, creativity, ability to truly listen to self and other, and to tune-in to the systemic relationality of the systems we serve. All of these, and many more, are important skills we gain in nature that aid Future-Fitness.

Feedback from a recent immersion with Giles:
‘The immersion at Springwood with Giles was very powerful, thought-provoking, energising and soul-touching. I’m still strongly feeling the ripples from our time, many days after, and have already started some conversations which could be life-changing as a result. Thank you Giles! Highly recommended!’ Jules O’Donnell, Founder – talking CAT consulting
Giles’s latest book is Keys for Future-Fit Leadership:
‘Giles’ book – Keys for Future-fit Leadership – is impressively comprehensive and very generous. With a large amount of frameworks, tools, and visuals, it acts as both a reference work and a source of daily inspiration. It can be read cover to cover or dipped into as needed. The book also features a selection of guest chapters with real-world stories from leaders applying these ideas in diverse industries and contexts. This brings his insights to life, grounding them in lived experience. It’s not just about insight — it’s about practice. In short, Keys for Future-Fit Leadership is not just another leadership book. It’s a distillation of 30 years of inquiry, practice, and deep listening to what our times require. It invites us to move beyond surviving the future — and instead, to co-create it through presence, wisdom, and alignment. I highly recommend it for leaders, coaches, and practitioners working at the edge of business, human development, and systemic change.’ – Elisabet Lagerstedt, Founder & Director, Future Navigators
