Future-fitness Requires Death-Rebirth – the Alpha & the Omega
Transformative Times call for Death-Rebirth (R)evolution
Much is collapsing, and tensions across myriad systems are rising. This much is certain.
Rising stress, tension and dissonance inevitability invoke fear. Yet, such a time of widespread upset can also invite in a new dawn. Rather than merely ‘coping amid complexity’ we might learn to ‘thrive amid complexity’ by finding a new way beyond the old status quo limitations.
As a 400-year-old business mindset that sees ‘organization-as-machine’ crumbles under the pressure of unceasing transformation, a new way of ‘organization-as-living-system’ is on the rise. This new way is based on how NATURE WORKS, and requires an activation of regenerative leadership consciousness. As the ancient alchemic say goes:
‘Omega is an archway where Alpha stands framed.’
The death of the old in-forms the very context for a new way to be born. Let’s not fixate only on the Omega (the death-throes of the old system collapsing) but also find insight in the new dawn struggling to be born (the Alpha). As Iranian philosopher Seyyed Hossein Nasr articulates:
‘Only the end of a cycle of manifestation makes possible the recapitulation of the whole cycle and the creation of a synthesis which then serves as the seed for a new cycle.’
The cycle of industrialized mechanistic thinking of the last 400 years – and its widespread desacralization and exploitation of nature (incl. human nature) – is now coming to an end. The opportunity for the creation of an epochal synthesis that transcends-and-includes what’s gone before, harking back to a reactivation of ancient ways, while bringing forth the new. An unfurling in our consciousness is occurring right now during this epochal hour, if we so choose to evolve.
This is what my latest book NATURE WORKS explores, an activation of this unfurling consciousness, along with ways to bring forth insights deep within our inner-outer nature so that we learn to flow as life flows, to adapt and evolve as leaders and change agents amid these transformative times.
Rather than facing into these times with rising fear, polarizing, out-casting and blame, we can start to bring forth the real insights that deeper-nature affords, the insights that make us truly human in this more-than-human world of ours. As the great mythologist puts it:
